We took our kids ice fishing over the weekend. The weather was fairly warm and sunny outside and we were all feeling a bit of cabin fever, so my hubby decided that ice fishing was the thing to do. It was nice to get outside and enjoy some fresh air.
We packed a light lunch and drove to the Nevada Creek Resevior about 30 miles from our house. We then unpacked all the fishing gear, put the kids in the sled and walked out across the ice. Walking on ice makes me nervous - especially with my two young children with me, but Bill assured me it was safe. A couple of other fishers had their 4 wheelers out on the ice, so I figured that we were okay.
We found an good site and my husband augered out four holes in the ice. I tried to get a photo of how thick the ice acutally was, but I could not get a clear photo. The ice had to be two feet thick! I was amazed that it was that thick. The kids scooped out the extra ice with their ice scooping spoons, the hooks were baited and the fishing began.
Fishing is boring. Ice fishing in boring and cold. The kids had a really fun time though. Owen started a snowball fight and Maya made snow angels. At the end of the afternoon, we had spent about three hours out on the lake and Owen was the only one to catch a (pathetically small) perch. He was so proud of himself!
We brought the fish home with us and Bill cooked it for the kids as a snack. Maya ate the whole thing and then Owen cried because he wanted his fish back! All in all, it was a good day and we enjoyed getting outside for a while. Cabin fever is starting to set in around here.

I really love your family! They are the most beautiful people I have ever seen. Hopefully nobody came home with frostbite and had a great time together. Lorak
