Destruction Project

Our small and simple addition has quickly turned into a mess - which I knew it would! It is springtime in the Rocky Mountians, and that means mud. Lots and lots of mud. The ground here is very soft once you get through the top layers - much like in Alaska. Well, the very first thing that happened was that the backhoe they were using to dig out the trenches for the foundation sank in the mud. I mean SANK!

Thankfully, the backhoe operator was able to get the machine out by himself and no one got hurt. Now, the trenches are dug - and full of water - which has to be pumped out. The next step will then be to set the form and pour the foundation. Hopefully, weather permitting, that will be done by the end of the week!

In any building project, the laying of the foundation is the very worst part. It stinks because everthing is all ripped up and a mess. Soon though, the forms will be poured and the trenches will be backfilled and life on the mountain will be back to as normal as it gets around here!

I keep reminding myself how grateful I am to have a nice home to live in and have the luxury to be able to do what I want to with it. In that light, sunken backhoes and mud up to your ankles is a blessing! This is an exercise in patience and teamwork for the whole family. I will take my lessons from my Holy Father and remember that He has blessed my family greatly and to complain about mud is -- ridiculous!

Wow!!! That is crazy.

So happy for you Jen. I hope it gives you the space you need and things go well with the building. But you are the pro's with 3 houses built, right?

You know, we are tired of building after three houses. My hubby made me promise no more building projects - and he actually made me shake on it! LOL He is being very patient - sunked backhos and all!
