Thanksgiving went just fine diet wise. I stuck to my goal of one plate of food and a small (and I mean small ) portion of the two desserts we served. All that high fat food tasted wonderful but I felt really full. Not stuffed, but fuller than I have been in a while so my stomach still felt weird. There was no snacking or going back for seconds either. I packed up almost all of the left overs and sent them home with my Mom and sisters. I kept a bit of pumpkin pie and some turkey for the kids. That is it!

I had a small melt down a couple of days before Thanksgiving when I ate a small Kit Kat and two chocolate chip cookies instead of eating lunch. I have no idea what happened. I just ate them - and chose to eat them - and then wanted to cry because I had done it. In the light of reality, it was not so bad and could have been so much worse as my kind hearted friend Lin reminded me.

I am so glad to have Thanksgiving behind me. As much as I enjoy it, Thanksgiving is all about food. I sincerely wish that you could just choose to take a 'food pill' and not have any food in the house when you are trying to diet. That would fix then entire problem! As it stands, I try to keep the junk food down to a minimum, and I do. The problem is when we go somewhere. The amount of junk food is horrible. You cannot go anywhere without having chips, candy, doughnuts - all kinds of things that are not only lacking in nutrition, but are horrible for you period - within easy reach. I have stopped going into gas stations and convience stores altogether. It is really hard for me to go in and pay for my gas and take my two kids in. They want all kinds of stuff - and who could blame them? They cannot help but notice all the treats. So, I use my gas card and do not go inside to pay for my gas anymore. Problem solved for all three of us!

My expectations for diet progress over the next 4 weeks are as follows: I do not expect to lose much weight - but I do expect myself to make a pound of two of progress over the next 3 or 4 weeks and at the very least not to *gain* any weight. I will be doing a fair amount of traveling over the next four weeks - which means eating out. And then there are the two planned Christmas parties that I will be attending. Moderation is my motto!!

Go Jen! Sounds like you did great! I kept my portions at dinner within reason, too. However, I nibbled a lot while I was cooking. lol

Good luck with the next few weeks!

Phew! I feel like I have passed a huge hurtle. The rest of December I can deal with I think.

I did some sampling as well. I did not have any dips or small appetizers around - I had a veggie tray with ranch dip, which I made with low fat sour cream. The thing that saved me was sending all the food home with my family members. There is none of it here to 'revisit'! LOL Hope your quiet Thanksgiving with just the four of you was nice :)

Jen ~ it sounds like you did great. I also only did one plate of food and a small piece of pumpkin pie. I just need to get serious about my diet again ~ I've just had so many other health problems this year, I've taken my diet for granted.

So, how soon do you get to go away for your "me-time"?

Well, Bill and I are going to Billings (or should I say coming to Billings :)LOL) to do our Christmas shopping for our parents and kids this coming weekend. Then, about the 12th or so, I hope to be able to get into a spa that I have had my eye on in Spokane - Post Falls actually - to spend the day there and do some shopping. Hope it all works out. If it does not, then I will get away right after Christmas, around the time of my birthday. I am hoping for sooner rather than later - and I am sure my family is as well. :) This early menopause thing that I am experiencing has thrown me!

I hope your health problems are something that can be taken care of!

Jen,

I just wanted to say I am encouraged by your self control. I am also wieght watching. I am so glad you posted about it.

This Thanksgiving I started out with one plate of very moderate proportions. My mother-in-law even made mention about it and I had a very, very small 2nd portion of 3 more foods. I felt good about what I ate and I didn't feel like I had to roll away from the table either. I also had two small portions of pumpkin pie.

Thanks for the encouragement, keep it up and keep me posted.

You go girl...you are doing GRRREAT! (as tony the tiger would say, tee hee!) I know on weight watchers they tell us be realistic about the holidays, you are doing exactly what they tell us to, plan ahead, be realistic, etc. I am really proud of you. Do not be hard on yourself, doing both holidays at your house is really a lot! geesh! We had CArrie out for the week, sweet gal but a week was a bit toooo long! I luckily did not pull all my hair out, tee hee!
luv and hugs
